Tucsconians are lucky to live amongst so many sophisticated and exceptional culinary experiences. These experiences are part of the city's culture and the result of deliberate work from so many people.
Truly one of the exceptional examples is Tucson's 5 Points Market & Restaurant.
I finally made my way there last Sunday with two great friends.
We arrived early because my friends knew how busy the brunch service could be.
I love the purpose behind the restaurant. According to their website, "5 Points opened in January 2014 as a direct challenge to the idea that profitability in the service industry necessitates the exploitation of labor, resources, and agriculture.
We pay a living wage, provide health insurance, and prioritize local & sustainable agriculture, always. What can't be sourced locally is vetted and sourced organically & regionally."
I immediately fell in love with the cozy vibe, the old floors, and the overall vibrancy of the interior. The market section was bright and beautiful, full of local produce, fresh eggs, milk, cheese, and a thoughtfully curated selection of food products, art, crafts, housewares, treats, fresh flowers & natural wines.
It feels like a place where you want to stay for a while. And we kinda did!
Honestly, it was hard to decide what to order. The menu is not extensive but full of bursting flavor that even made my imagination hungry!
It took us a while to decide on the entrees, so we felt the need to split one of the scrumptious-looking sugar-covered sweet potato donuts. And wow, just wow.
I finally decided I'd try the Smoked Salmon Benedict. And let me tell you, the food did not disappoint! The salmon was so flavorful I wanted to order more. The balsamic reduction caramelized onion potato pancake was incredible.
You know you had a good meal when you immediately want to order it again! But I restrained myself because I didn't want to let out my internal glutton in front of my friends.
We sat and enjoyed our meals, absorbed the ambiance, and relished great conversation until we realized we had been there for a couple of hours and people were waiting outside. So, reluctantly, we left.
But I will be back, you should go too!
